Nursing Certification Program Announcement

UVA Community Health supports the growth and life-long learning of registered nurses. The Center of Nursing Excellence (CoNE) has established a certification program for UVA Community Health nurses. Within this program, there are several processes to provide financial support to obtain a certification including pre-paid vouchers for select nursing professional board certifications. Contracted relationships have been created with qualifying national certifying organizations to establish discounted prices for pre-paid vouchers and, in some cases, a second test option in the event the first attempt is unsuccessful.

Nurses must apply and be approved for funding before registering for the initial or re-certification exam. To apply for these funds, an application must be submitted through the Application for Financial Assistance for Nursing Professional Certification.  Payment should not be made to the certifying organization before the application is submitted to ensure full reimbursement.

To apply for certification funds, nurses must submit an application for the certification exam. CoNE will review the application to determine the correct process for financial funding. Following the review process, the nurse will be informed about the status of the application and the correct process to complete. This will ensure the nurse receives the appropriate guidance towards receiving financial support for the certification exam.

Nursing professional board certification is currently supported through several processes:

  • Pre-paid vouchers for select approved nursing professional board certifications
  • Reimbursement through the Tuition Reimbursement Policy for initial nursing professional board certifications that is submitted through Human Resources using the Tuition Reimbursement Qualification Application. This application must also be submitted before beginning the certification exam process. Please note that the Tuition Reimbursement Policy does not provide funding for re-certification.
  • Certification and re-certification financial support for non-voucher approved nursing professional board certifications through CoNE.
